My Inspiration behind Kids of Nature – by Paul Godard

My Inspiration behind Kids of Nature – by Paul Godard
When exploration and travel is in your blod, you never have enough of it!
This started since I was 16 and I have just turned 50 a few weeks ago.  During all these travels, the common quest was the insatiable search for the beauty and the magic of nature.  At age 12, I also started looking at nature through the lens of my camera and I have not stopped since then.  Nature photography is my passion, for sure!
Connecting my own children with nature is for me the most important thing to do with them.  This is how I have grown my two kids, Enya & James, now 8 and 6.  I beleive that I have succeeded as they now come to me to show me the colors of a sunset, or the dew drops on the leaves and flowers in the morning, or a colorful baby cocoratche…  The beauty is everywhere in nature, this is the magic of nature.
When we travelled with some friends from Europe 2 years ago, we were a bunch of 7 adults and 7 kids, mainly teenagers.  These kids from Europe were only asking for the disco in Gordon’s Bay at their arrival, or looking at the ‘no reception’ message on their cellphones in the middle of the Kalahari, they had absolutely no interest at looking through the windows at the beginning of the trip!  Then something happened; we had a break down on the sand track to Mabuhatsehube.  While I was under the trailer to fix the suspension, I was looking at them.  My children were exploring and playing with anything they could find around there : some pieces of wood, some beattles and even the dusty sand… they were having a lot of fun!  The other children from Europe, they were just sitting on the side of the track and mourning with an eye on their cell phone, of course.  Then Enya & James simply started to show them how fun it was to feel the sand through their hands and filling their pockets with it… and slowly the other kids realized that it was great and fun to just do that!  An hour later, I was unfortunately still under the trailer but all the kids were nicely playing together with every natural toys they could find and use in their imaginary stories and games.
Enya and James had simply inspired the other children, to feel nature, to re-connect with nature.
From that day, Petra my wife and myself, we became convinced that we knew what we had to do.  Inspire others with our own stories, inspire other families to re-connect their children with nature, with the help of Enya & James, Petra’s inspirational writing and my nature soul photography.
So since then we have slowly build the first layers of the Kids of Nature Initiative and very recently produced the first book of a series, Enya & James In The Land Of Magic.
We have some many ideas we want to share with you…
