OUTING – ENJOY FULL MOON
Night-time magic!
Last month, the children and I climbed Lion's Head in Cape Town to watch the sun set and the moon rise. The view from the top was awesome with all the beautifull lights of the city around and below us. The ships on the ocean looked unreal. And then, suddenly, the moon rose from behind Table Mountain. It was large and orange and splendid.
Cape Town at night fell silent. It was all happening on top of Lion's Head... Indeed, we were not the only ones to discover this magical moment.
The children (7 & 8 yrs) loved being up late and climbing a mountain in the dark. On the way down, only the moon lit their path. And although mine was lit by a torch I kept on staying behind, feeling like a crippled, half-blind cockroach...
With all the lights in the city, imagine how they can be seen from above, miles away in the universe someone might be looking at the Earth and the show we put up every night...
Check the Moon Calculator to find out when is the best time to enjoy the next full moon.
Other than climbing Lion's Head at full moon, you can also walk on the beach or find out from your local riding school if they take riders out on full moon walks. Journey's End Horseback Riding in Somerset West offers full moon outrides.
When it's full moon, the magic is everywhere!
