BE A NATURE DETECTIVE  print this page

Be a nature detective

Let your children explore the hidden life in and around trees.
It's fun, doesn't require travel, doesn't cost you anything and if you're really too tired to stretch your neck or go on all fours, just sit back and enjoy your children having fun...

Look for

  • signs of feeding such as pine cones, nuts and fruit gnawed by animals,
  • nest holes at the base of hollow trees or high up into the branches,
  • insect holes and carvings in the bark,

Encourage your children to record their findings in a notebook, to make drawings and use a field guide to learn more about their discoveries.
