OUTING – SWIMMING WITH PENGUINS
Boulders near SimonstownBoulders lies just outside of Simonstown towards Cape Point. The beach forms part of a conservation area that is home to a delightful colony of the vulnerable African Penguin. They're also called Jackass Penguins because of their amusing braying call.
The wooden walkways at the information centre are a good way to view the penguins from all angles. Boulders is also a most enjoyable area for swimming, especially with children. It is made up of small coves surrounded by big boulders.
The water is warmer than on the Atlantic side and with a bit of luck you can swim with the penguins. Do keep a distance at all times though. They're mighty cute, but their beaks are as sharp as razors and you wouldn't be the first one to receive a nip in the first accessible body part...
